Intimacy is painful because the closer you get….

“Intimacy is tough. It’s fucking hard. Love is hard. With anyone: not just your man, not just your woman, but your mom, your dad, your siblings, your friends. Not because of the inevitable disagreements or any of that nonsense; while those might be annoying, they aren’t the real reason intimacy is painful. Intimacy is painful because the closer you get to someone, the closer you are to the realization that no matter what you do, what you say, how perfect you are, how hard you love, you cannot stop time. Or differing realities. Or change. Or ultimately, loss. Death. Anger. Parting. Separation. So you might disconnect as a means of mitigating that pain but the reality is you only push it into another part of your life, or down the road, to some future unknown time when it’s okay to feel pain (when is that??). It will come out. It always does. So go ahead and love. Love, because it reminds you you’re alive.”

7/17/12: Awaken…during midsummer.

Awaken….
To the suns golden rays burning into my sleepy bedtime eyes.
Clever mind:
Gathering thoughts and
Abstract Oil painted images…

I bathe my body in the sweet aromas of
Jasmine, rose
Opiates to the being of our kind
Intoxicating our minds with its sweet drug..
Desire and design.

Hoping to.
Succeed.
Power.
Passion…..
Freed..

As I sat on the train last night and recollected all the events that had taken place over the past couple of days and I fumbled around with my small bag of heavenly scented essential oils and the buddhist book I purchased at “The land of Buddha” on McDougal Street I instantly became inspired. I couldn’t find my pen in my bag (which I later found in my makeup bag), and took out my Blackberry to use the Microsoft Word App. First, look at Modern Technology. I typed the poem, edited a few times but just letting my mind roam. What an amazing feeling! To simply have lovely words coherently roaming my mind and these: I have to get out. Release.

Saturday: Midsummer Garden Party

Saturday I awoke to yes, the suns golden rays burning into my eyes and I got up and dressed early to start preparing for the day ahead: Our Midsummer Garden Party.

After getting showered, dressed and mixed a new concoction of essential body oil: Jasmin, Opium and a secret ingredient. I coaxed Rob( my roommate) to go food shopping with me for the party and to go and have brunch at our new favorite local haunt: Eclipse. A Mexican restaurant that caters to vegetarians/vegans in the area.

Eclipse Taco Combination plate:
2 Tofu tacos and a Guacomole. Side of Rice & Beans is a must for me!

After Brunch, Rob and I made our way to Keyfood and went food shopping, where he snapped this little photo promoting Vintage Seltzer.

We carried the groceries home and Kristy arrived soon after that and we started to set up for the party as well as snapped a few fun photos during because Kristy unfortunately had to run to her performance that evening.
But I am happy she came by!

Friends started rolling in one by one and later in groups of two and three’s and the party ran all night. Robyn showed up with her newborn baby boy, my nephew! And when she walked into the yard: she looked like a Grecian goddess carrying her pride of joy.

Elizabeth(click to check out her blog!) made her DELICIOUS Potato Salad, Jessica made summer rollers with Jalapeno dressing and Jen brought a large tub of Raw Mint Chocolate chips ice cream left over from The Veggie Prom. There was a smorgasbord of delightful foods and drinks and the music? Rob had been the DJ and we had the Garden playing one playlist and Robs bedroom playing another.

People came and went and the day turned out to be perfect. How could it not? I was surrounded by people I love.

The last person left at about midnight and Rob, Rachel and I decided to go dancing at Fontana’s, a bar/dance club that houses our very own Vegan Drinks monthly as well as the Veggie Prom this past year for Brit-pop night! We go-go danced the night away before running over to San Loco’s for some delicious Guacamole Tacos (Do you know what kind of food I love?).

Sunday:

I went to Bliss in Williamsburg for Brunch and then ended up wondering and doing a tad bit of shopping. It was a nice day and I decided to go home and write a bit and catch up on some relaxation.

Jacquelyn came home and we decided to have a bit of a”Ladies night”; painting our nails and listening to girl-rock music and basically singing and dancing to our hearts content. The beautiful part of the night? When Jacquelyn and I decided to waltz and spin as rain began to fall outside. The sound was overwhelmingly pleasant and we wanted to just run out into it: free. We stayed in dry instead, and sung Disney songs.

Monday:

I had dinner with Dania at Sacred Chow to discuss some things we both were going through. We went to my favorite Buddhist shop; The Land of Buddha and each picked a book out and a ring. I stumbled upon a ring with a Jade stone which is said to bring me luck. “Well I need it” I commented to the shops salesperson, he smiled and laughed before replying that “If you feel it will attract luck, it will”. I nodded, honestly, I just enjoyed the color of the stone and the fact that it was the only one that fit me made my mind up to purchase it. Even if I believed that it would bring me good fortune I still appreciated its natural beauty.

I believe in this quote and decided to rethink what I feel on faith, once again. I truly believe in what Buddhism can give you: love, peace and freedom from stresses that will tear your life into tiny pieces and leave you crying in the gutter. I am tired of stresses, of ego…

Ahimsa: Do no harm.

Just love.

And this leaves me to where I started this entry: on the train, writing the poem above.
