Veggie Prom 2012!

It’s that time of year again: when the “Annual Veggie Prom” which usually happens in the same lovely weekend as The Veggie Pride Parade, but this year the parade will take place on May 27th.

I can’t believe it’s been a year as so many things have changed in my life.

– Met my friend Diana at last year’s Veggie Pride…

– Realized I had to move on and made a very important decision to

– leave Riverdale to start a new chapter in my life, even if it was quite hard.

– Realized that my true friends are supportive and fell in love with them all.

– I moved to Astoria.

– Started volunteering  more often with PETA and traveled the country on an activist tour.

– Wore lettuce bikini’s at the capitol in DC.

Interviewed by PETA for being a volunteer. 🙂

– I moved to Brooklyn into a vegan house, where I am content and happy. And adore my roommates.

– Met extremely unique individuals..

– Finally found a job that I am happy going to daily.

– Became a Board of director at The Yippie Museum Cafe.

– Became closer to the friends I have.

– Experienced and conquered and thrived…

– Became the NY campaigner for a nationwide ANTI FUR campaign: INTERMIX: PLEASE STOP SELLING FUR.

– Invested more time and more dedication to activism.

Liam Gallagher graciously kissed my hand and nicknamed me “Sweetpea” and then dedicated the song “Man of Misery” to me last December…

– Started writing this here, blog.

– Had a vintage motorcycle ride I didn’t want to end….

– And went back to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary as much as I can and threw a successful benefit for them.

Are you asking why I am posting this? Because again, I am running for Veggie Prom Queen.

It’s a night of dancing, enjoyable vegan refreshments and just good ol’ fun.  Especially if you are like me and didn’t really enjoy your first prom: you’ll be quite pleased you attended this one! Donations will be made to Mercy For Animals.

Last year was a jolly good time!

Come on out on May 18th and celebrate and vote for me as your Veggie Prom queen for 2011!

And don’t forget those dancing shoes!

Prom attire definitely appreciated!

And for now until then: nominate me & campaign for me. 🙂

How to nominate someone:

Email nominations@veggieconquest.com

In the subject line, put the full name of the person you would like to nominate.

In the body of the email, write one or two sentences about why you think this person should win.

Campaigning is not only allowed but encouraged! Some ideas to campaign about: what the nominee has done for the animals or veg*n movement, their character, how foxy or totally awesome they are… It’s up to you!

I’ll see you at The Prom! (Oh, will I have a date? ha!) and walking in the Veggie Pride Parade on May 27th.

04.06.12: A town called Malice….

Better Stop dreaming of the quiet life cos it’s the one we’ll never know
And quit running for that runaway bus cos those rosey days are few
And stop apologising for the things you never done
‘Cos time is short and life is cruel
but it’s up to us to change this town called malice…..

All tied up in ribbon...

All tied up in ribbon...

The past few days have been a whirlwind of events, as per usual and I have yet to be done with my list of to-do’s yet…

I was given a taste of something I nearly forgot on Monday:

Freedom & inspiration:

I was able to ride as the passenger on a vintage motorcycle and it’s hard to not want to do it again…it felt magical.

Tuesday:

I was interviewed for the same French Documentary that I went to NJ for but we have to re-tape: again, which is fine because Marion is a sweetheart.

We ended up having a nice dinner at Rice, one of my favorite places to frequent in the West Village and or Dumbo, and usually by myself with a glass of wine.

Marion & Me les Femme

I really feel the need to go away right now, run even…I am slightly feeling lonely in a sea of friendships and not to mention: amazing ones. New York City is truly to big for hearts like my own sometimes and I need to go explore elsewhere….live.

I feel the need for inspiration.

Description;

I need something to guide me into the power of lyric for I feel I may have lost it in  my daily routine and or the events that occur around me….just like the picture at the top of this page…I am all tied up in life and my heart is going sour around me.

At least that was how I felt in the middle of the week.

And then I wake up to the sun shining through my windows and realize I am inspired daily: by my friends and the new people I meet or just overhearing the conversations on the street. Wednesday night I went to the Open Mic (Occupational Hazards) at The Yippie Museum and watched and listened to plenty of people’s opinions. I just adore when people can incorporate politics, activism and poetry and or lyrics into one beautiful art piece. I watched with deep interest and enjoyed the fact that people really do care for the world as much as I do.

(Photos taken at Something New Lowbrow last week with my girls, Elizabeth & Kristy)…

Life is ABOUT exploring, why sit at home and not seek something new? I want a moped to enjoy my travels with like this beautiful Pink one:

Since the past few days have been extremely beautiful and overwhelmingly bright with sun, I have taken to playing with my outfits but making sure they are quite “chill” at the same time: and being that I am about to do more PETA work, once again…I decided to wear a PETA shirt to my job and I really love that I am able to express what I believe in.

Tomorrow(Saturday): I will be heading up to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary with some of my girls to celebrate my birthday, the same thing I do Annually! I’ll be hugging the pigs, running with the goats and kissing Dylan, my favorite cow. I will be overwhelmed by the beauty around me and take it all in…with every breath.

This weekend will be uniquely beautiful….and I can’t wait to be  inspired in nature and to enjoy every second with my friends and those I care about.

This is the last weekend of my 20’s and I am MAKING sure it will be a memorable one!

Care to join? 🙂

If only I’d thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I’d thought of the right words
I wouldn’t be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

As you can probably see from all these photos: I have had a hectic past two weeks. A lot of events are coming up at The Cafe that I am on the board of and I am focusing on that, my birthday party on April 13th (though really April 12th!) and this weekend I will be filming a documentary with my friend Diana, a health coach as well as feeding homeless on Long Island on Sunday.

Next weekend I will be heading up to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary for my annual birthday visit! and a breath of fresh air.

I will and promise to catch up soon and keep in touch.

03.29.12:Live Interview on TV: Let Them Talk

I have been busy but here is a live TV interview I did the other day…

01.20.12: Touch your lips with a magic kiss, And you’ll be a bluebird too, And you’ll know what love can do….

Paul McCartney (when he was in Wings) singing Bluebird was the first song this morning when I woke up and turned on my I-tunes and hit shuffle that I listened to.  Hearing him sing such a song that got me moving was what inspired me to wear this semi casual 70’s-80’s outfit, and of course it has to be primarily the color blue:

70's Mod Sweater.

I'm a Bluebird...Acrylic knit sweater bought at Stache. Mod Print.

Being inspired this morning by Paul is a dream come true since I truly didn’t sleep all to well last night. I usually find myself waking up and checking the time to see how much LONGER I can actually sleep and maybe jotting down a few words into one of my journals and passing out again.

Paul is an extraordinary person to me. I have met him previously while living in Dublin and not that I didn’t already like him because believe me, I did..he actually became more of someone I can say when I hear what he has to say, see his face and or read up on his new activist moves: he brings light to my soul. His concerts are powerful (Well, he is a Beatle!)…and he is vegetarian. He represents PETA, and speaks highly on Animal Rights and Human Rights activism. He had started the campaign of Meat Free Mondays which involves asking people who do eat meat to at least try to cut out meat for just one day a week: Mondays. and wrote a song for it.

Meat Free Monday, it’s a fun day……

“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian” – Paul McCartney.

All alone on a desert island
We’re living in the trees,
And we’re flying in the breeze….

Desert? Not at all, it is actually quite cold here in NYC right now but this gives me a chance to show off my retro jackets. I have a slight obsession with numerous coats and I never seem to wear them all but I decided on wearing this one today as it is comfy, warm and fits well with jeans: & I love my go-go hat:

Go-go bluebird

Late at night when the wind is still
I’ll come flying through your door….

Tonight I will be having a slumber party with my good friend Diana and am so very excited about that! This means typically being girly; painting each others nails, talking about boys and watching movies that will probably melt our hearts and even more likely: dancing to music and jumping around in our pajamas. There will be pics: I guarantee this.  Even more so: We will probably make sure to say “No Boys allowed” or “Boys drool, girls rule”  This is one girl that the fun just keeps on giving. I will be wearing a mod nightgown *if it’s not to cold* and or my usual Animal rights shirt with sweat pants.  She is inspiring and I look forward to hanging all night with her! She is the owner of Elements Wellness Boutique which is located in Westfield, NJ.

Next step: to buy a nice pair of flannel pajamas, maybe I will stop by at Odd Twin in Brooklyn tonight and check out if they have any. I really enjoy going to sleep looking nice because in the morning while I walk up to the mirror drowsy and half asleep (really, like a zombie), I smile as I knowingly entered the world of dreams: looking my best. 🙂

Tomorrow: I will be holding a Protest against INTERMIX because they have recently started to sell Fur (UK!) nationwide and I am the campaigner for the NYC Branch of this Anti-Fur Campaign.  Please try to attend this:
